Artist / Jewelry Designer
Familiar with painting and music from childhood; awakened to the joy of making through postcards exchanged with a grandmother and games of playing shop.
After studying fashion, worked in web design and art direction in the fashion field, and in IT startups.
Traveled across Europe, and was captivated in India by richly colored gems and Jyotish (Indian astrology). Founded the jewelry brand MEGUMI HARUNA in 2014.
Creates original jewelry that honors the character of each gem and the sensibility of the one who wears it. Has shown work at department stores and exhibitions, including IDENTITY, inspired by the double helix of DNA.
Continues to create across genres, including jewelry, painting, and music.

From the moment your heart stirs.
At the root of my making
lies a small memory from childhood.
Exchanging postcards with my grandmother.
On a small piece of paper,
I would draw,
and layer color upon color.
Something born of my own hands
reaches someone, far away.
And playing shop.
What shall I put on display?
How shall I arrange it?
What would make it
even more fun?
I loved those hours of thinking,
more than I can say.
The moment an idea came,
I wanted to make it real.
The hours of making,
the moment of showing it to someone,
my heart raced at both.
Looking back, perhaps
I have been doing the same thing all along.
Taking a small flutter born within me,
giving it a form you can see,
and delivering it to someone.
That was where my creating began.
In time, that curiosity spread
to music, painting,
fashion, and design.
Listening closely to the sound of a piano.
Layering one color over another.
Traveling to a world I had never seen.
In me, they were all quietly connected.
As an adult, I worked in web and art direction,
making things across many fields.
And then, India, reached while traveling the world.
The ancient wisdom of Jyotish I met there,
and one gem that captured my heart,
opened the door to a new form of expression: jewelry.
When I gaze into a gem,
from within its small light,
colors, landscapes,
and stories begin to unfold.
Sometimes I make that world into jewelry.
Sometimes, into a painting.
Playing a sound.
Choosing a stone.
Layering a color.
What I express may change,
but the thrill inside me is the same as when I was small.
I treasure the moment the heart is moved.
Guided by that feeling,
today again, I bring something new into being.

From a single stone, a world opens.
When I gaze into a gem,
an unexpected landscape
sometimes appears within.
A place where light overlaps.
A boundary where color melts into color.
A transparent stillness,
and a vividness that seems to overflow from within.
Inside a small stone,
a world this rich.
That wonder
is where my creating begins.
The color and light I feel in a single loose stone
become a line, then a form,
and reveal a new expression.
The landscape I found within the gem,
I draw through my own senses.
Sometimes
an unexpected line appears,
and as I keep drawing,
a world
I could not see at first emerges.
That process, too,
is part of the joy of creating.
From a single gem,
imagination reaches without end.
And the work that is born
opens, in turn,
a new view within someone's heart.
From a small light, into an infinite world.
